Andreea Cataros

is a full-time artist living in Constanța, România,

where the Black Sea whispers its endless stories to the shore.

She began painting in childhood, yet only later in life did she fully surrender to the call of art, after completing her academic studies. Her work springs from two enduring fascinations: the language of art and the miracle of life itself.

Her vision seeks to unveil existence in a way that feels almost enchanted: through the steady gaze of a bird, the proud stance of a rooster, the quiet strength of wild and farm animals, or the silent marks of time etched upon forgotten places. Many of these creatures are first captured in sketches during her solitary hikes, their presence distilled into lines and shadows before being transformed into paintings. Landscapes, meanwhile, are painted mostly plein air, directly within nature’s embrace, where shifting light and atmosphere seep into the canvas.

Her journeys into the Transylvanian Mountains deepen this dialogue with the living world. For long stretches of time, she leaves the coast behind to wander forests, peaks and valleys, gathering references and immersing herself in the rhythms of untamed nature. These lands hold a special resonance, for her father’s lineage comes from Transylvania, and in returning there she reconnects with both ancestry and the spirit of the wild.

Her paintings emerge as fragments of these encounters, mysterious reflections of belonging where nature speaks in whispers. Each canvas becomes a threshold, inviting viewers into landscapes both real and dreamlike, places where time dissolves and the spirit of the living world reveals itself.
